Health Minister Ivan Valentovic charged lawyers to undertake an independent legal analysis, to examine whether the draft amendment to the health insurance law and the draft amendment to the law on public health insurance are in line with the Slovak Constitution, reported the Health Minister's spokesperson, Silvia Balazsikova, on Monday. The minister had the following reaction to the decision of the Association of Health Insurers (ZZP) to order a legal analysis of draft bills from the Health Minister, delivered by Ms. Balazsikova: "The minister will not take the analyses that ZZP slips to media into consideration. If an independent analysis proves any of the several regulations of submitted legal norms inconsistent with the Slovak Constitution, the Ministry will draft another alternative to these norms, in which any potential inconsistency will be removed."
Earlier on Monday, ZZP criticized the attitude of the ministry for turning down objections of health insurers and for not including them in the draft health insurance bills. "Instead of arguments, the minister resorts to ads," ZZP Executive Director Eduard Kovac said. ZZP claims that Mr. Valentovic provided false and misleading information in the ads, when he claimed that the transformation of health insurance companies to business entities is a rarity in Europe.
