SMER-SD is Still a Clear Winner in Public Opinion Survey

The strongest ruling coalition party SMER-SD still enjoys high popularity of Slovak citizens, indicates the latest public opinion poll conducted by the Statistics Office's Institute for Public Opinion Research (UVVM). The institute surveyed preferences for political parties from April 1 to April 10. SMER-Social Democracy has as many as 42.9 percent sympathizers among those polled. On one hand, this is 2.4 percent less than in March and 3.8 percent less than in February, but on the other hand, it is three times more than the second most popular political party the ruling Slovak National Party (SNS) with 13.1 percent.
The opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union- Democratic Party (SDKU-DS)placed third, supported by 11.0 percent. The People's Party-Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (LS-HZDS) and the opposition Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) garnered 10.4 percent, each. A total of 8.9 percent of those polled are sympathizers of the Christian-Democratic Movement (KDH). The public opinion survey was conducted on a sample of 1,110 respondents aged at least 18.
