Leaders of three governing coalition parties in Slovakia agreed on Monday that in the first reading their parties would back the draft amendment to the Labor Code in parliament. "We agreed that we will jointly support the draft revision of the Labor Code in the first reading," said Prime Minister Fico. However, in the second and third reading, there is interest to carry out such technical alterations, which will precisely correspond with the government's program statement, he added.
The cabinet unanimously approved the draft revision of the Labor Code in mid-April. In general, the proposed changes should boost the position of employees in relation to employers. The draft norm includes a clear difference between employment relation and work based on a trade license, a new regulation concerning severance payments, a possibility to work ten hours weekly for the period of one year and changes to norms of labor consumption. Organizations representing employers oppose the draft.
