As of July 1 of this year, salaries of teachers and researchers in government funded institutions will go up 5 percent. Education Minister Jan Mikolaj confirmed the plan to increase teachers' salaries to 1.2-times the average wage in the national economy, which is about SKK 20,000. Salaries should grow each year. After the cabinet approved the 5 percent pay rise, the minister said he hopes that at least in the first two or three years [of this government's term], the pay rise would be regular. As of July, the salaries of doctors and nurses in social service facilities will also go up 5 percent. Other public sector employees will be given a 7 percent pay rise.
The cabinet agreed on Wednesday that salaries of civil servants and public sector employees would go up in July. In accordance with a collective agreement signed for 2007, salaries of civil servants will go up four percent. Salaries of public sector employees paid according to basic wage tariffs will go up seven percent, while salaries of university teachers, as well as all other teachers, will rise five percent.
