Border and alien police will have 180 days to examine the possibility of deportation of Algerian terrorism suspect Mustafa Labsi back to his homeland. Mr. Labsi was transported to the Medvedov Police Detention Center on Thursday evening.

Though Mr. Labsi was set free, he was taken for questioning about eligibility of his stay in Slovakia on Thursday afternoon by the border and alien police. "His stay is illegal, since there is still a valid decision about administrative extradition from 2006," said Silvia Mihalikova from the Interior Ministry's press department.

The Supreme Court released Mustafa Labsi on Thusday. The court based the verdict on a decision of the Constitutional Court that ruled that Labsi cannot be extradited to Algeria since it could violate his human rights.

Algeria asked Slovakia to extradite Mr. Labsi, who has already been given a life sentence by an Algerian court. He was also sentenced to five years in jail in France, in March 2006, for planning terrorist attacks in France and counterfeiting official identification documents. The alleged Algerian terrorist suspect Mustafa Labsi filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court, claiming that a decision to permit his extradition to Algeria could violate his basic right to be neither tortured nor exposed to cruel, inhumane or humiliating treatment.
