Prime Minister Robert Fico has already some names of people who could replace the outgoing Defense Minister Frantisek Kasicky. As TA3 informed, Prime Minister will decide among three candidates. One of possible new defense ministers could be the current Defense Ministry state secretary Jaroslav Baska. Mr. Fico does not see any reason why the current Interior Minister Robert Kalinak should take over the Defense Ministry. Mr. Fico would not like to see a SMER-SD deputy as a new defense minister, since his possible recalling would be more complicated.
Defense Minister Frantisek Kasicky announced his resignation at a joint news conference with Prime Minister Robert Fico on Friday. The Ministry of Defense was shaken in recent weeks by a scandal with public tenders for prices exceeding standards more than ten times.
