NBS Report: Average Interest Rate on Loans was 6.94 Pct. in May

Monthly data published by the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) show that
interest rates on existing loans of commercial banks in Slovakia in May increased by 0.11 percentage points compared to the previous month, to 6.94 percent. Interest rates on loans for non-financial companies reached 5.77 percent on average, which is 0.12 percentage points more than in April. The average interest rate on household loans increased from April by 0.06 percentage points to be at 8.44 percent.
The average interest rate on new loans drawn in May was 6.4 percent, which represented an increase by 0.14 percentage points. Non-financial companies took new loans at 5.88 percent in May on average, up 0.44 percentage points m/m. On the other hand, the average interest rate on new loans drawn by households dropped 0.43 points to 8.68 percent. The average interest rate on drawn loans was 8.14 percent, down 0.21 percentage points from April. Non-financial companies drew loans at 7.69 percent on average and households at 11.78 percent in May.
The average interest rate on deposits in commercial banks in Slovakia amounted to 2.228 percent in May. The interest rate on demand deposits of non-financial institutions was 1.13 percent; on demand deposits of households it was 0.542 percent. Interest rates on new deposits reached 2.16 percent on average in May. The interest rate on new demand deposits of non-financial companies reached 1.14 percent and it was 0.542 percent in the case of households.
