After two months of a trade deficit, Slovakia's foreign trade in May returned to a surplus. According to preliminary data of the Slovak Statistics Office released on Friday, the surplus in May was SKK 4.12 billion (EUR 136.76 million). The Statistics Office revised the deficit for April upward by about SKK 1 billion (EUR 33.19 million) to SKK 6.762 billion (EUR 224.76 million). In the first five months of this year the trade balance surplus was SKK 1.979 billion (EUR 65.69 million), which compared to the same period of last year is a surplus lower by SKK 358 million (EUR 11.88 million).
Total import of goods in May grew 6.3 percent y/y to SKK 129.103 billion (EUR 4.285 billion). Export in May grew 0.2 percent to SKK 124.983 billion (EUR 4.149 billion) For five months of this year, Slovakia's export grew 14.1 percent to SKK 647 billion (EUR 21.48 billion) and total import by 14.2 percent to 645 billion (EUR 21.41 billion).
