In the coming years, the towns of Presov and Poprad are to become attractive places for expansion of shopping malls. The survey "Shopping Malls and Hypermarkets 2007," conducted by GfK Slovakia, also suggests that smaller towns such as Dolny Kubin and Michalovce can hope to become such preferred localities. GfK also mentioned Nitra as an example of shopping centers' expansion. Four brand-new shopping malls are to be built there in addition to the already existing two.
From a regional viewpoint, the Bratislava region has the biggest number of shopping malls, while one-third of the entire shopping mall sales area in Slovakia can be found in the capital itself. Bratislava is followed by the Kosice region with a 13-percent share, and the Nitra region with 12 percent. The main attraction for visitors to shopping malls are popular brands. Slovak customers have still more demands and expect more additional activities and services from shopping centers, states the survey report.
