Two years after pre-term parliamentary elections, the party of Prime Minister Robert Fico, SMER-Social Democracy (SMER-SD), continues to enjoy the strongest support among citizens of Slovakia. According to a public opinion poll carried out by MVK polling agency at the turn of May and June among 1,083 respondents, 38.5 percent of respondents would give their votes to this party. The opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union--Democratic Party (SDKU-DS) would gain 12.3 percent and the junior ruling coalition member Slovak National Party (SNS) would end up third with 11.5 percent. Respondents were answering the question which party they would support if parliamentary elections were held this weekend. Over nine percent of respondents said they would not attend the elections and 19.3 percent was undecided for whom would they vote.
According to the MVK's poll, the Christian Democrats (KDH) would also make it to the parliament, backed by 9.2 percent of voters, the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) with an 8.4-percent support and the People's Party - Movement for Democratic Slovakia (LS-HZDS) with 8 percent. Based on these results, SMER-SD would get 66 deputy mandates. SDKU-DS would have 21 mandates, compared with the 19 mandates of the SNS. Sixteen deputies would represent KDH, SMK would have 14 representatives and LS-HZDS would also receive 14 mandates.
