Tesco Stores SR Plans Investments of SKK 760 Mln. in Slovakia

The company Tesco Stores SR, a.s. plans to invest approximately SKK 760 million (EUR 25.227 million) in Slovakia in the near future. The retail chain will build the Retail Park shopping mall in its hypermarket in Prievidza, which will specialize in sales of non-food products such as textiles, electronics, toys, stationery, cosmetics, footwear, books, and flowers. According to the Environmental Impact Assessment, the company will invest around SKK 560 million (SKK 18.588 million) in this project. The Retail Park will offer over 2,600 meters of area for lease. Tesco plans to start construction in May of next year and complete it in October of the same year.

Tesco's second project is construction of a hypermarket in the town of Revuca, in eastern Slovakia, worth SKK 200 million (EUR 6.638 million). The hypermarket will cover an area of 4,600 square meters and will focus on the sale of foodstuffs.

Tesco entered the Slovak market in 1996 and operates sixty outlets in country, including five department stores, 41 hypermarkets and 14 supermarkets. Last year, the company opened a distribution warehouse for the Visegrad Group countries near Senica. The company is one of the biggest employers in Slovakia. Tesco Stores SR currently employs more than 8,300 people.
