The second reactor of the V1 nuclear power plant (NPP) in Jaslovske Bohunice, operated by nuclear decommissioning company Jadrova Vyradovacia Spolocnost (JAVYS), was shut down for planned refueling and overhaul on Saturday, October 13. The refueling break will also be used for revision and control works. "These will include, for example, an internal check of the reactor's pressure tank. Among the most important activities to be carried out is the repair of two 110kV fields of the switching station and modernization of transmission dispatcher equipment," JAVYS spokesman Dobroslav Dobak informed SITA.
This year's refueling break should last by early December. It will be the last break in a 27-year history of the second reactor, since no refueling break is scheduled for next year. The reactor will have a slightly prolonged campaign of 380 days. The reactor's output will be decreased over the last two months of the year 2008 and an output effect will be used until the ultimate premature winding down of the reactor's operation in late December 2008.
