Czech President Vaclav Klaus will observe the tradition of Czech presidents and he will pay the last visit in his term in office to Slovakia. He will arrive for an official two-day visit of Slovakia on Thursday, accompanied by his spouse Livia Klausova.
On Thursday, Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic will receive the Czech guest in the Presidential Palace. They will assess recent development of relations and discuss the changes that both countries experienced over the past five years, such as the accession to the EU and Schengen area and implementation of economic reforms. Both presidents will also talk about the current multilateral issues, as development in the EU after adoption the Lisbon Treaty, which the Czech Republic has not signed yet. Slovakia believes that after adoption of the treaty, the EU will work more effectively and will manage to better face global challenges.
On Thursday, the Czech guest will meet with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Presidential couples will visit a secondary grammar school in Bratislava, where they will meet with students of the senior grades. After an official dinner, Mr. Klaus and Mr. Gasparovic with their spouses will attend a theater performance in the new building of the Slovak National Theater in Bratislava.
On Friday, President Klaus will visit a castle in Topolcianky, which used to be a summer residence of presidents of the Czechoslovak Republic. He will also visit to the National Stud Farm in Topolcianky and a local wine producer.
The Czech Republic is traditionally the second most important business partner of Slovakia, following Germany.
