Surveys show that as many as 35 percent of large businesses in Slovakia are preparing for the adoption of the euro, stated the Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) Ivan Sramko at a meeting with representatives of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SOPK) on Monday. The Chamber of Commerce and the governor agreed that fulfillment of the Maastricht criteria is realistic and that it would be irresponsible to discontinue preparations for the euro adoption. Mr. Sramko informed the Chamber of Commerce on the preparatory procedures and economic impacts of the entry into the Eurozone as of January 1, 2009.
The NBS governor stated that also small and medium-sized companies should start preparing for adoption of the euro and pointed to the important role of the Chamber of Commerce in this process. The President of the Chamber of Commerce Peter Mihok assured the NBS governor that the chamber will continue to be helpful on organization of information seminars and services for small and medium-sized businesses in order to achieve a problem-free entry into the Eurozone.
