Starting and outlining your position |
I'd like to begin by saying... I'd like to outline our aims and objectives. There are two main areas that we'd like to concentrate on / discuss. |
Agreeing |
This is a fair suggestion. Provided / As long as you, we will... I agree in principle that all of us... however, ... Well, to a certain extent I agree with you, but... You definitely have a point there, but... I take your point. However, it looks to me that.. |
Disagreeing |
I'm afraid that's not acceptable to us. I understand where you're coming from / your position, but... We´re prepared to compromise, but... If you look at it from our point of view,... That´s not exactly as we see it. I respect your opinion, of course, but on the other hand... |
Clarifying |
I'd like you to understand our position. What do you mean exactly when you say.... Could you please clarify your last point for me? Sorry I don't follow you completely; would you mind explaining this... Could you be a bit more precise on...? |
Summarising |
Can we summarise what we´ve agreed so far? Let's look at the points we agree on. So the next step is... Do things we have agreed upon seem acceptable to you? Is there anything you´d like to change concerning the...? Is that an accurate summary of where you stand? |
Grammar |
We use 2nd conditional sentences when negotiating the deal, while we use 1st conditional when we have made the deal. |
Examples: |
1st conditional: If you increased the order, we could / would reduce the price we have offered. 2nd conditional: So, we'll reduce the price by 10% if you double your order. |
Instead of „if“,you might as well use |
unless = if not as long as provided (that) |
Examples:
As long as you increase your order, we can offer a greater discount for you. Unless you increase your order, we won´t be able to give you a discount. Provided you increase your order, we can give you 10% discount. |
