Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) head Pal Csaky considers the stance of the Slovak government toward the visit of Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom to Komarno as very sad evidence of the fact that the Prime Minister and some members of the government do not realize that there are democratic rules in the European Union. "Within three months Slovakia will enter the Schengen Zone and there will be no guards at the borders, which means that the level of freedom of every citizen will increase. Restrictions of the nature proposed by Prime Minister Robert Fico have no place in 21st Century Europe." According to Mr. Csaky, the visit of the Hungarian President to Komarno was of standard character.
Robert Fico expressed dissatisfaction with yesterday's visit of Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom to Komarno. He stated that the Slovak government would not tolerate or accept if a person crosses the border of the state and abuses a private visit to criticize Slovak agencies. He emphasized that the president had said it was not a political visit, and had thus expected that Mr. Solyom would not abuse the situation for political purposes.
"The Government of the Slovak Republic is the government of a sovereign country and we simply cannot allow top representatives of other countries, in particular of Hungary, to come here and behave in the south of Slovakia as if they were in the north of Hungary," stated Mr. Fico. Mr. Fico underscored that the Hungarian president is not the president of the citizens of the Slovak Republic who live in southern Slovakia. Mr. Fico expects standard protocol and diplomatic tools to be deployed in order that President Solyom be put in his place regarding private or official visits to Slovakia.
