The situation in Kosovo, which is contemplating declaring sovereignty, is stabilized and calm at present, reported Slovak Defense Minister Frantisek Kasicky during his visit of the Slovak KFOR contingent in Sajkovac. He stressed that Kosovo should not declare its independence without taking into consideration the stance of the EU and the United Nations. As the minister stated, Slovak soldiers serving in Kosovo were not affected by the situation in the country, only the intensity of patrolling increased.
Mr. Kasicky reported at KFOR headquarters in Pristina about the decision of the Slovak government and parliament to increase the number of Slovak soldiers in Kosovo and broaden their mandate. As a result of this, a total of 174 members of the Slovak armed forces should serve in Kosovo. KFOR command praised very positively the work of the Slovak soldiers in Kosovo. Moreover, Mr. Kasicky awarded the members of the 11th contingent NATO medals for their service in the peacekeeping mission.
