Slovakia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Kubis on Tuesday condemned and thereby distanced himself from recent statements of Slovak National Party (SNS) head Jan Slota and the behavior of the opposition Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) leader Pal Csaky. "I consider the statements of Mr. Slota intolerable. It is unacceptable to use certain terminology in political fight and to defame political partners," said Mr. Kubis at a press conference. On the other hand, he also criticized also SMK representatives, who, in his opinion, launched a cycle of confrontational exchanges. Moreover, the minister is appalled to see that the SMK is connecting statements of Mr. Slota as a representative of a party in the governing coalition with the Slovak Republic. The SMK is thus intentionally harming the interests of Slovakia," he said.
The minister reiterated that the Foreign Ministry does not identify itself with the statements of Mr. Slota. He hopes that Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom will enjoy himself during his planned private visit to the town of Komarno. "Everybody is welcome in Slovakia, especially citizens and politicians from neighboring countries," concluded the minister.
